To be ACKNOWLEDGED in association with site rentals for the Maleny Agricultural Show.
The Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Maleny Show Society Inc. (encompassing Maleny Showgrounds) undertake to ensure that the premises are safe and without risks to health as far as is practicable.
To ensure this safety, Council and the Show Society expect any persons other than Council or Show Society employees will:
Act in a manner that does not endanger the health and safety of any other person at the showground.
Not fail to carry out a safety direction that is given to the person by the Council/Committee for the showground.
Will not wilfully or recklessly interfere with anything provided in the interests of health and safety at the showground.
In particular, the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002, Part 5, Division 5, will apply to electrical equipment. This includes, but is not restricted to:
All electrical equipment will be tested and tagged in accordance with AS3760 - this includes extension leads.
Extension leads will be tagged with the owner’s name.
Portable electrical equipment is double insulated and earth leakage protected.
All flexible and extension leads must be supported at least two metres above ground.
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE MAY LEAD TO EVICTION FROM THE SHOWGROUND
RISK MITIGATION
One of the issues that Shows face is that a great deal of electrical equipment is brought onto the Showgrounds by external people whether they be exhibitors, competitors, stall holders, commercial displays etc. The Maleny Show Society has a policy that ensures that anyone bringing electrical equipment onto the grounds has a responsibility to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
“Anyone intending to bring electrical equipment to the Showgrounds will be required to ensure that such equipment is fitted with residual current protection (with rated residual current <30 mA) and that all electrical leads, tools and appliances have been inspected by a licensed electrical contractor and are currently tagged. The tag must be within the next test due date. The use of double adaptors and piggy-back plugs is prohibited and all power boards must also be tested and tagged. Domestic power boards are not to be used in an outside situation unless specifically approved for this purpose.”
As some electrical equipment may also have electrical motors and include drive belts it should also be ensured that they have adequate guarding in place for exposed parts. Regular inspections, particularly before an event, should be carried out by a competent person. Repair of damaged equipment and access to live parts should only be dealt with by an authorised person.
